This is what has worked for me. Choose the new name, then start calling the dog both the old and new names together: OLD NAME + NEW NAME. The key is consistency. You must use the double name every single time you say your dog's name. Over time (I suggest giving it a couple of weeks), you can start dropping the old name and just use the new name. You will be able to tell by the dog's response when it's working.
